Lata Mangeshkar

Lata Mangeshkar is one of the great singer and one of the best-known voices of India. Lata Mangeshkar is also know us “Nightingale of Bollywood”. With singing as her career, she has spanned over seven decades on the top of Hindi and Indian regional film industries. Her Golden Voice helped her to make an indelible mark on the Hindi Film Industries.

Singing came naturally to her from her birth, as she was born as the eldest daughter of a classical singer. Her father was Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar and her mother was Shevanti Her father was a theatre artist which formed a platform for her and her sister to big stage from an early age. Her father died unfortunately when she was very young. Lata Mangeshkar become the family’s breadwinner and she was the best. She was honoured with Bharat Ratna which is very rare tribute for a vocalist.

Her father’s friend Vinayak gave the young girl a small role in the Marathi movie when she was just 13 year’s old in 1942. She started her singing career in the same movie. She moved to Mumbai in 1945 along with Master Vinayak’s company. During this time, she also started taking classes in Hindustani Classical music.

After the death of Vinayak in 1948 left another void in Lata’s life and her initial years in the Hindi film industry were a struggle. However, she scored her first hit with the song ‘Aayega Aanewala’ from the movie, “Mahal’ in 1949.A big turning point in her career was when she won a Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the composition ‘Aaja re Pardesi’ from the film ‘Madhumati’ in 1958.

She also holds the Guinness Book of World Records from 1974 to 1991 for having made the most recordings in the world which over the period of 1948 to 1974 came up to be approximately 25,000 solo, duet and chorus-backed songs in 20 Indian languages.

She is a greatest inspiration for many young budding singer and also for many well-known singers in the industries. Her golden voice is loved all over the world. Her journey in music industry was not easy, but her passion for singing was bigger than her struggle.
